From concept to proof. Hemp4Water® founder Steve Edmonds has led teams of volunteers who dedicated time and resources to a series of successes.  Benchmarks along the way included building a partnership with our research partner, South Florida State College. When the partnership began, we honestly didn’t even know every question we had to answer. We did know hemp was an amazing phytoremediator, used large amounts of phosphates and nitrates in the growing process, and was adept at cleaning contaminated soil of toxins and heavy metals.

Research led by Dr. Kate Calvin has led to breakthroughs in plant genetics, methodology for measuring phosphate uptake, and processes proven to be superior at removing phosphate build-ups over time. Finally in 2024, after years of testing in the lab and in the field, we have a formula for calculating the square footage of surface area we would require to restore any body of fresh water to homeostasis given a known daily load of new nutrients being added. This breakthrough formula allows us to offer this service to private and public projects. We can clean the water with a process that is cost-effective and adds no chemical additives to the water.

Steve invited a new team to join his board. The team represents the advocacy, government relations, and technology needed to build on Hemp4Water’s® legacy of success.
